A widget is a banner your readers can click to find and book activities on GetYourGuide. You get a commission for every activity your readers experience.

Widgets can be omnipresent on your website — if your sidebar is static (it’s on every page of your site) then widgets will always be visible. This makes navigation easier for your readers and means there’s always an opportunity to click. As our partner, you can use our widgets as another integration point of our tours to your website, as they allow you to display content more visually.

What are the benefits of widgets?

  1. Easy to implement: use the WordPress plugin or JavaScript widget
  2. Responsive: widgets automatically adapt to desktop and mobile
  3. Versatile: you can place widgets directly within the content or in the sidebar
  4. Aesthetically appealing: widgets have engaging visuals with reviews

At GetYourGuide, we provide our partners with three kinds of widgets: the activity widget, the city widget, and the availability widget

Activity widget
The activities widget is a JavaScript-based tool that allows you to showcase the top tours in a city or category or curate your own selection of tours to display — we recommend featuring three.

City widget
If you’d like to give your readers a preview of everything a city offers, city widgets are the way to go. Each widget has an eye-catching photo and teaser content provided by GetYourGuide. It’s a good solution for a broader integration, where you want to allow the readers to explore more of a location without suggesting specific tours.

Availability widget
With this widget, you can display the availability for any experience in our inventory via a calendar. The calendar will already have grayed out the dates we don’t have available and show the dates the experience has a discounted price.

How to create an activity, city widget, or availability widget.

  1. Once you log in, click Tools in the bar at the top of your screen. You’ll see the options to set up a city or activity widget.
  2. You can highlight specific activities relevant to your content with an activity widget.
  3. To show top activities based on search terms, a city, or geographical coordinates, select Search.
  4. To create a city widget, enter the city’s airport code. Don’t know the code? Just click the link to search for the code.
  5. Choose how many activities you’d like to promote and select the language and currency.
  6. To show activities you’ve chosen yourself, select Specific URLs and enter their GetYourGuide URLs.
  7. If there are activities that shouldn’t appear in your widget, click Advanced and enter their URLs to exclude them.

Adding a widget to your site

  1. No matter which widget you choose, you’ll have to add the code for it to your site. When creating your widget in the Solutions tab, click Tracking and select where you’ll place the widget.
  2. Add a campaign name so you can track how many readers click and book through the widget.
  3. Check out the widget preview on the left side of your screen.
  4. If you’re happy with how it looks, copy and paste the code to your web page or blog post.
  5. Don’t forget to also add the JavaScript code snippet to your site. You only need to add it once per page.
  6. Congratulations, your widget is live. You'll now get paid for each booking your readers.
