Top tips in selling tours and activities

Did you know that 70% of all tours & activities are sold between 1-14 days before the tour takes place (source: GetYourGuide booking data)? In order to take advantage of this insight, we suggest that you look into how you as a travel agent can sell tours & activities just before your clients travel - or even while they travel. We want to help you take a piece of the pie of the in-destination spending. In this article, we will give you top recommendations to sell tours & activities.


Majority of our travel agency partners get in touch with their customers around2 weeks prior to the vacation to hand over the travel documents. This is the key timing to offer tours and activities. Clients are excited for their vacation and will start planning what they want to do on their trip. This is where we encourage Travel Agents to begin selling tours and activities by inspiring clients to discover the best of their destination with GetYourGuide.  What clients remember about their vacation is usually not the flight or the hotel but the experiences they have in the destination with their family and friends. We will share some recommendations on how you can help your clients start dreaming.


We would recommend changing your selling style depending on the type of client you have in front of you. Below you can find some scenarios: 


1 - The less digital averse clients


Recommendation: 

  • You know your clients the best. Browse our homepage and find the best experiences that suit them - from museum visit to fun outdoor activities. (Find an overview of our types of activities in this example from Paris here). Some examples

  • When you check-in with the client just before the trip - ask them whether they know what they want to experience and then share the examples to inspire them. 

    • If they are interested -  offer to book directly for them - make sure to mention that you can help in case there are any issues in the destination and the price is the same, no matter whether they book through you or book themselves in the destination. 

    • If they aren’t sure yet or don’t want to settle on a date, offer to share a booking link with them so they can book whenever they are ready (again - same cost). To know how to share links, check out this article


How to do it:

  • Log-in to https://partner.getyourguide.com

  • Enter the travel destination, point of interest, etc. into the field after “Where is your client going?”, select the travel dates and click on search

  • You will now be redirected to www.getyourguide.com and are logged-in as a travel agent. Please don’t log-in again on this page - you are already logged-in and should see a yellow banner on the top of the page (add tracking link)

  • Now find the ideal tour for your client and follow the normal booking flow (add link)


2 - The more digital clients


Recommendation

  • These clients might want to explore the breadth of our inventory on their own - no problem.

  • Just before the clients start their vacation send them a short email or whatsapp to wish them a nice vacation like this: 

    • “Dear Miller family, I wish you an amazing vacation! Enjoy every moment of it. Need some inspiration on what to experience in [destination]? Have a look here - *insert your getyourguide link*. Best, [your name]”

  • You can share a link to a destination or a specific tour depending on your clients interests. We will attribute the purchases made via your link to you and you will get paid a commission. As before, the prices stay the same.


How to do it:

  • Now you have 2 options to share a link with your clients 

    • Link to the destination page

    • Link to a specific tour

  • Link to the destination page

    • Just copy the link in the yellow banner on the destination page 

  • Link to a specific tour

    • Click on the specific tour you want to share

    • Copy the link in the yellow banner on the tour page
